Just back from my walk with Sri. It was a beautiful sunny day for most of the walk but the rain came on just as we were heading back from Burnett Park.
If you could see me now, you would say, "Yep, the fuzzy wuzzy look is back again."
Interesting fact about our bodies taking longer to decompose these days, Gary. I can see the logic in it.
I once watched a documentary about mummified bodies of Buddist monks in little shrines high up in the mountains of Tibet. The theory is that they (the monks) died of starvation, hence the microbes inside the stomach died and as we all know, we are digested by our own microbes from the inside out after we die...they weren't. The air on the outside has to be dry too I would think. Is the air up the Himalayas dry?
Lovely carpet Craig and Kelly!

Friday Morning 31st October
Kelly, you were a tonic, this morning! I thought your story about getting too tired to get home was hilarious! I'm still laughing now.
As for the Russell Brand + Jonathon Ross story...I don't know what was said. I only came across it when the media were going on about how terrible their behaviour was. What messages did they leave on the old man's phone?
Sri just phoned...we have agreed to go out walking at three so I'd better get on and do all my other bits and pieces. I haven't been out walking for ages; must be almost a fortnight now. Not good.
The trees are really beginning to lose their leaves now. Check out the sycamore from the front of the house,

and the Silver Birches at the back!

Wednesday mark 3
I decided yesterday to get seasonal with my cooking (and try out a few recipes before the week end - Anne & Lesley and Johanne & Colin are coming round for dinner) and so I bought 3 pumpkins at the supermarket and looked up recipes on the internet. I found 'fragrant chicken' stew and pumpkin soup.
The stew, I made yesterday for tea. A lot of preparation and a lot of clearing up afterwards...it wasn't worth it. The stew was nothing special and the chicken was tough. There is a portion in the freezer, if anyone wants it.
Today was the soup
Three and a half pounds of pumpkin
onion, garlic, chicken stock, cumin and maple syrup.
I've now eaten 5 bowls of this soup to see if it improves with time and ...it doesn't.
The boys damned it with faint praise.
There is another recipe for pumpkin soup and I think it is more like the recipe you talked about, Lucy. It has coconut milk and curry powder in it.
The question is are we up for it? Can we go for 3 days of pumpkin in a row?

Wednesday mark 2
Wednesday 29th October
I've just seen the photos of Luca on Gary's blog. I know he's fine but it tears at the heart to see his wee face like that!
I haven't been writing since Saturday. See how it feels, Lucy, when you log on expectantly only to be disappointed! Or do you get time to even log on to read these days?
On Sunday, I took my camera with me to the Milton so that I could capture the images of my coffee buddies. You have already seen Johanne and Maura so here are
Sri,

Myra

and Anne.

You now have a full set!
What did I do on Monday? Oh yes!
In the morning, I went to see Doctor Rough about my blood tests. Apart from my cholesterol level, everything was fine including my ECG.
You will have noticed that I spell cholesterol correctly. That is because Google corrects you when you spell words wrongly. Very politely, I must admit. They say,"Did you mean..." and then they insert the correct spelling in italics. How helpful! :)
The doctor is sending me to Stonehaven for a stress ECG, just to make sure. I suggested to him that I was just getting older and he agreed that my symptoms could be put down to this but he wants to cover the possibilities and rule them out first.
My total cholesterol is 6. Not good but not terrible either. My good cholesterol is 1.6 and my bad is 3.8 and my triglyceride is 1.53.
"Just eat a normal healthy diet," said Doctor Rough. I find it hard to take him seriously. I don't think he is any older than Ross.
And talk about looking young. You should have seen the wee guy who took my x-ray! ( I went to Woodend Hospital on Monday afternoon) He looked about twelve!
I should get the result of the chest x-ray in about 10 days time.
Anne chummed me into Aberdeen for the x-ray and then we went to Cosco ( that spelling doesn't look right!) and M&S foodstore in Westhill. It was teatime when I got home and Ian was already in though not in his jammies... yet!

Friday 24th October
I am now part of Marks and Spencers eclub and will receive their newsletter soon! This wasn't something I actually set out to do but is a by-product of having sent flowers, from the M&S sight, to Dave and Doris. I can hardly wait :)
All I will say about sending flowers through the internet is - don't bother unless you know the postcode! What a cahfuffle - trying to get a postcode for Denside of Durris! In the end, I phoned the helpline and it, I was informed, charges 50p a minute. I sweated blood thinking about hanging on for hours with the music playing and the 50ps totting up but actually they were very quick!
Denside of Durris is the same postcode as Durris, they told me - AB31 6BL - just in case you ever need it.

I found this old photo when I was looking through my photo album. It's Granda in happier times. I think Ian was about 15 then.
I can remember having to wear a swimming cap like the one Dawn has on. They were instruments of torture! What really annoyed me about them was that men did not have to wear them. It didn't matter how long your hair was - mine was always short when I was young - it was a gender thing. No cap meant you were barred from going into the pool.
I think it began to change after men started to grow their hair long in the sixties. Were they being asked to wear caps? Or was the reason given for wearing caps - long hairs clogg up the filters - blown out of the water. Don't know.
It was in the sixties that the rule obliging women to wear hats in church started to slide too.
The mantilla filled the gap between hat and bare head. You used to keep your mantilla in your bag and pop it on when you went into the church. Most folk wore black but there were a few white ones too.
For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, a mantilla was a triangle of cloth...well lace actually.

It's 8.50am and I've had my fix - this morning it was 'Silent Witness' so I'm off to start my day. Will I start with the ironing or the hoovering? Choices, choices!!
