Tuesday after reading Gary's blog

Gary...I had trouble getting the same blog as the others set up. It wasn't Ross who helped me, it was Dad.
Blogs are not Ross' area of expertise.
As for babysitting...friday and Saturday are out this week end as we are having folk round for dinner on Saturday night and I'll need time to clean up and organise the food. Sunday would be alright. As would Thursday or Monday.

Tuesday 30th September

Here you go Lucy...
I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor
First I was afraid
I was petrified
Kept thinking I could never live
without you by my side
But I spent so many nights
thinking how you did me wrong
I grew strong
I learned how to carry on
and so you're back
from outer space
I just walked in to find you here
with that sad look upon your face
I should have changed my stupid lock
I should have made you leave your key
If I had known for just one second
you'd be back to bother me

Go on now go walk out the door
just turn around now
'cause you're not welcome anymore
weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye
you think I'd crumble
you think I'd lay down and die
Oh no, not I
I will survive
as long as i know how to love
I know I will stay alive
I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give
and I'll survive
I will survive

It took all the strength I had
not to fall apart
kept trying hard to mend
the pieces of my broken heart
and I spent oh so many nights
just feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry
Now I hold my head up high
and you see me
somebody new
I'm not that chained up little person
still in love with you
and so you felt like dropping in
and just expect me to be free
now I'm saving all my loving
for someone who's loving me

The video that went with the song was of a girl on roller blades. If I remember rightly, the focus was on the roller boots.

I, like Lucy, do not keep music, composers or musicians in my head.
And I can go for weeks without listening to music.
The music I enjoy or feel like listening to is dependant on the mood I am in at the time.

At the moment, I am listening to 'Hello Children Everywhere' - 75 Children's Classics from The Golden Age of Radio featuring such Golden Oldies as The Ugly Duckling by Danny Kaye, 'I Taut I Taw a Puddy Tat' by Tweety Pie and Sylvester and 'Right said Fred' by Bernard Cribbins.
Possibly Kelly could proffer an explanation as to why this is what I am drawn to at the moment.

Apart from the present moment, I listen to
  • Simon and Garfunkel.
  • Roy Orbison
  • Buddy Holly
  • Johnny Cash
  • Mylene Klass.
  • Katherine Jenkins makes me cry. But that's because I had given my mother a copy of 'Katherine Jenkins Second Nature' just before she died and she played it quite a bit in those last few weeks. Don't ever play'Time to Say Goodbye' when I am around.
  • I really like 'I am a Man of Constant Sorrow' by The Soggy Bottom Boys - it's the only song I have knowingly heard them sing.
  • Kenny Rogers
  • Ravel's Balero - only piece of music of his that I know
  • Bands from the sixties...Beatles (early work), The Searchers, The Monkeys, The Bonzo Dog DooDah Band, The Kinks, Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas, Hermin's Hermits, The Beach Boys, The Tremeloes and Gerry and the Pacemakers. I have this really good double CD called Heartbeat. It is music from the TV series. All from the sixties.
I listen to other singers too but these are the first ones that came to mind. I also like a lot of light classical music but although I know what I like, I never remember what it is.

It's time to check on the invalid, Ross. Running a fever with sore throat and head. Blocked ear on one side causing deafness. Tight chest and cough.

Saturday

Ian has gone to bed. He fell asleep watching the TV with a glass of wine in his hand.
Not as tired as action man, I decided to write my blog before heading for bed.

I went over to Inverurie today to see Luca, Carole and Gary. I really only intended staying for coffee but ended up staying for lunch too.

Luca was having smoked haddock and vegetables a la dog's dinner followed by mango.

The fish arrived and no he wouldn't eat it.

O.K. our beans on toast came...but no he wouldn't eat it either.

Whatr's next? The mango.

Yes. He would have some mango. And now that he came to think about it, the fish actually looked quite delicious so let's have some...and let's follow the fish with some mango and let's have some fish and then some mango and then some fish and yes, some mango would be good after that!

The boy done good. He has refused to be straightjacketed by the 'savoury first followed by sweet' lobby! Well done little boy!!

26th September

Yes, Gary, I was trying to be humorous.
Murder She Wrote is enjoyed by a select band which does not include the Stewarts.
Thought ...I must ask our Mary if she appreciates it.

On the way home from the supermarket at teatime today, my phone rang but by the time I had stopped the car it had gone onto voicemail.
On listening to voicemail, I was horrified to hear Ian say, "It's eleven oclock and I am now at Stracathro...where are you?"
What! :0
We had spoken last night about taking a trip down to Glasgow...had I misunderstood what Ian had proposed? Had he thought we were meeting at Stracathro to go down today?
I could feel the blood drain out of my face.

It was then that I found myself listening to another message. "We're at home, where are you?"
What a relief. This was the message that had just come in. The one I had listened to initially was from a few weeks ago. I had never picked it up!

I continued home with a skip in my step...not literally of course since I was driving.
What is it they say about it being good for you to get a wee fright now and again? Adrenalin surging through your body certainly makes you feel good afterwards!

You are right, Gary, that eye of Tony's is something else. Do you think he got the part because of it? I have always thought he looked a bit insane!

Thursday 25th September

Got up and had breakfast while I watched Murder She Wrote part 1 of Mirror, Mirror on the Wall. A jealous and deranged writer played by Jean Simmons is out to murder Jessica. Doc has eaten the poison apple by mistake. Jessica finds him collapsed in her kitchen where he had come to borrow a pie dish and had found the basket of poisoned apples. What a cliff hanger! I am saving part 2 till later.

I have cleared the rubble off the floor in the wee cupboard under the first flight of stairs. Thought I was going to choke to death with the amount of cement dust that was stirred up in the process. The surface at the far end , deep in the cupboard is smooth but the surface nearer the door has not been finished off and is very bumpy and uneven.

This is the way it was when Granda Stewart made the door in the panel to give us access. He said that we should floor it, but we didn't. We just dumped everything in on top!

I used to get really frustrated trying to move things in and out but felt incapable of resolving the situation so cut off my nose by not even removing the rubble :(

Time for change.

Ross went back to work today after being off yesterday because he felt unwell. He isn't feeling well tonight and has gone to bed early. Having put off his computer to get peace, he has asked me to waken him in the morning. I have written myself a note which I shall place beside my bed so that I won't forget.

Dad and I went out about fivish to play a few holes of golf. I could have been better but I could have been a lot worse too. I might not have flown or gone very far but I didn't skite to the left or right either :)

Just to let you know...it wasn't the deranged writer who tried to murder Jessica! It was the deranged writer's stepson! he knew his Dad and she were going to split up and when they did...he would lose access to all her money so he concocted a dastardly plan to frame her for murder!

Exciting stuff...huh!!

Wednesday 24th September

My sultana scones were a delicious disaster.

Disaster because they came out looking more like butteries than scones. However, since Anne, Johanne, Anne's mum and Ross all agreed that they were very good, I feel I am justified in describing them as delicious too!

I managed to keep one for Ian who criticised it! It was he who compared the scones to butteries. Whilst I acknowledge that they did indeed look like butteries, can I point out that he alone criticised :(
Where is my support? What happened to being there for me through thick and thin? :)
There are none left.

I have found a soul mate in Anne's mum. She is the first person I have met who appreciates Murder She Wrote and Midsummer Murders.

Anne let herself down badly...she had no idea what Jessica's surname was although to give her her due, she knew about Cabot Cove.

Do I make horrible coffee?
No-one finished the coffee I made for them this morning. I felt as though, had I turned my back, they would all have emptied their cups into the nearest potted plant.
Do you remember the advert that used to be on TV. Everyone shuddered when they drank the poor woman's coffee till she found Nestles something or other...it was smooth as silk!

What am I doing wrong?
I have tried instant and gound filter but with equally negative feedback.

23rd September

I am putting off clearing up in the kitchen.

The grill pan and the wok are both in need of a good clean after making liver and bacon for tea. Neither can go into the dishwasher and I really don't want to stand at the sink scouring them.

Let's find something to keep me here instead!

The good news is that Ian has found Ross' counterpart for his driver's licence in his office in Fraserburgh.
The bad news is that Ross says he is not sending his documents to the court because in this electronic age they do not need them. His reference number would do, he said... and he added - they could lose my documents in the post.
We are half way through the month he has to send them in with his fine to pay for his speeding ticket.
Failure results in prosecution :(

Spent tiome with Anne today.
This morning, I took her into the Lang Stracht to pick up her new, silver Honda Jazz. A bargain price, she said, because it is an end of range model.

Later this afternoon, she and I took Kudjo (Laura's dog) for his walk round the Burnett Park. She wants to start walking seriously next week after her mum goes home! :0

Tomorrow morning, She is bringing her mum round for coffee and Johanne is coming too. I intend to make scones...but will I?

Monday 22nd September

Who gave that Ian Stewart permission to advertise my 'trial blog'. I thought I had explained to him that I was not ready yet, if ever, to be in the public domain!!

My blog is more thoughts than actions...it won't be a diary of events because there aren't many.
Let me give you an example.
  • I woke this morning just after seven.
  • Listened to the news on the radio while I drank my first cup of coffee of the day.
  • Toddled down the stairs and watched Taggart, recorded on Friday night, while I had my breakfast.
  • Thought about hoovering the carpets but have opted to read blogs instead...
It's now half past ten.
Busy, busy, busy!

Sunday 21st September

Finally finished Ghost Walk by Alanna Knight. 'Crime writer extraordinaire' according to The Scotsman.
I found it difficult to get into. The action was within the last couple of chapters. The majority of the book was the woeful bleatings of a guilt filled 'Rose' still in love with Danny McQuinn, her first husband, who had been declared dead after he disappeared and her imminent marriage to her second love who pops in and out of the story.
Rose is staying with her future in-laws just prior to the wedding when the murders take place.
She solves the murders but by the time she does, I am so fed up with her bleating I really don't care.
