Tuesday 30th September

Here you go Lucy...
I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor
First I was afraid
I was petrified
Kept thinking I could never live
without you by my side
But I spent so many nights
thinking how you did me wrong
I grew strong
I learned how to carry on
and so you're back
from outer space
I just walked in to find you here
with that sad look upon your face
I should have changed my stupid lock
I should have made you leave your key
If I had known for just one second
you'd be back to bother me

Go on now go walk out the door
just turn around now
'cause you're not welcome anymore
weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye
you think I'd crumble
you think I'd lay down and die
Oh no, not I
I will survive
as long as i know how to love
I know I will stay alive
I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give
and I'll survive
I will survive

It took all the strength I had
not to fall apart
kept trying hard to mend
the pieces of my broken heart
and I spent oh so many nights
just feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry
Now I hold my head up high
and you see me
somebody new
I'm not that chained up little person
still in love with you
and so you felt like dropping in
and just expect me to be free
now I'm saving all my loving
for someone who's loving me

The video that went with the song was of a girl on roller blades. If I remember rightly, the focus was on the roller boots.

I, like Lucy, do not keep music, composers or musicians in my head.
And I can go for weeks without listening to music.
The music I enjoy or feel like listening to is dependant on the mood I am in at the time.

At the moment, I am listening to 'Hello Children Everywhere' - 75 Children's Classics from The Golden Age of Radio featuring such Golden Oldies as The Ugly Duckling by Danny Kaye, 'I Taut I Taw a Puddy Tat' by Tweety Pie and Sylvester and 'Right said Fred' by Bernard Cribbins.
Possibly Kelly could proffer an explanation as to why this is what I am drawn to at the moment.

Apart from the present moment, I listen to
  • Simon and Garfunkel.
  • Roy Orbison
  • Buddy Holly
  • Johnny Cash
  • Mylene Klass.
  • Katherine Jenkins makes me cry. But that's because I had given my mother a copy of 'Katherine Jenkins Second Nature' just before she died and she played it quite a bit in those last few weeks. Don't ever play'Time to Say Goodbye' when I am around.
  • I really like 'I am a Man of Constant Sorrow' by The Soggy Bottom Boys - it's the only song I have knowingly heard them sing.
  • Kenny Rogers
  • Ravel's Balero - only piece of music of his that I know
  • Bands from the sixties...Beatles (early work), The Searchers, The Monkeys, The Bonzo Dog DooDah Band, The Kinks, Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas, Hermin's Hermits, The Beach Boys, The Tremeloes and Gerry and the Pacemakers. I have this really good double CD called Heartbeat. It is music from the TV series. All from the sixties.
I listen to other singers too but these are the first ones that came to mind. I also like a lot of light classical music but although I know what I like, I never remember what it is.

It's time to check on the invalid, Ross. Running a fever with sore throat and head. Blocked ear on one side causing deafness. Tight chest and cough.
